A Little Bit About Me

Picture
I am a confident, creative and award-winning strategic communications executive with more than 15 years of progressive experience in higher education and more than four years of experience as a print journalist. A forward thinker, I am a thought leader with a keen understanding of new and emerging technologies and their use in a modern omni-channel communications strategy. Experienced across all areas of strategic communications, I have a track record of collaboration, innovation and success. My work has been recognized with more than 30 industry awards.

Throughout my higher education career, I have been a highly visible leader with service on multiple committees and task forces. In my current role, I serve as Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications for Winston-Salem State University, overseeing all public relations, marketing, and branding efforts for the historically Black University of North Carolina constituent university. Areas oversight include the Office of Integrated Marketing Communications, Government Relations, Enrollment Communications, and the university's public radio station (WSNC-FM)

I have been a sought-after speaker, presenting at regional, national and international conferences on the topics of public relations, marketing, web strategy, leadership and social media. I earned my bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota and a master's degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University.  My husband and I reside in Kernersville, N.C., with our two Chihuahuas. My hobbies include portrait photography, painting, sewing and reading. I am working on editing a second draft of my first novel.
